How to Start Riding BMX

BMX (short for Bicycle Moto Cross) is exciting and challenging sport that lets everyone (that's right brothers, sisters, and even mom and dad) participate at their own pace and skill level. We at Miami South BMX take tremendous pride at the number of complete families riding at our track.

It's Free for First Time Riders!!!!

Come to the track on any practice or race night with your BMX type bike, long pants and a long sleeve shirt and sign up. That's it!  Its Free the first time. Our volunteers in registration will be glad to explain all the details about riding and racing BMX. Oh yeah - if your under 18 years old bring mom or dad.  For the complete details please read on  .............

National Bicycle League Sanctioned

NBL.gif All racing at Miami South BMX is sanctioned by the National Bicycle League (NBL). Except for first time "Free Trial" all riders must have a current NBL license to ride.

Both the NBL and Miami South promote BMX racing as a family sport. We encourage all ages to try BMX.

What You Need to Start

You will need a BMX type bike.

The bike should have the kick stand, chain guard, pegs and all reflectors removed.

We recommend the bike have protective pads on the top tube, headset and handle bar cross bar (if any).

The bike needs an operational back braking system. The front brakes (if any) should at least be disconnected.

You will need long pants and long sleeve shirt in order to ride on the track.

If you have a motor cycle type helmet you will need that, but if not we rent helmets at the track for $2.00.

If this will be your first time to Miami South BMX or any BMX track you will need to complete and sign a License application. If you are under the age of 18 one of your parent must also sign. There is no cost for the application or your first day of practice.
